Default Front Drive Shaft Engaged

I was getting a lube and oil changed today and while the tech was under the Jeep he asked if I had the Jeep in 4wd because it appeared front drive shaft engaged. Furthermore when I drove off he said my front drive shaft was turning but the Jeep was in 2H. Is this normal? I'm driving an automatic 08' Rubicon with 5.13's.

yes, the front axle components rotate with the wheels.

Yeah, this is what I thought/know but the guy had me second guessing because the he was so baffled by this. I figured he lubes 4X4's 100's of times a month and he seemed really boggled by this. So, in turn, he got me weirded out. Thanks.

I would be second guessing him touching my vehicle ever again.

ha ha ha...I'd be finding a different lube joint. As with most newer 4x4's on the market, all the axle components are engaged including the driveshaft, the disconnect is in the transfer case, not the hubs

We are in CA, if we were that selective no one would touch our JKs ... even the dealer.

That's been my philosophy for over 40 years.
As for working on other people's vehicles, I always tell them "I will help you work on your own, but I'll not do it for you." Then I remind them I teach/assist for food.

What's to lube underneath? My Stealer told me there are no lube points on the JK.

Older vehicles had locking hubs that disconnected the wheels from the axles. My dad always could tell the mileage difference in his F150 with the hubs locked and unlocked. I wish I still had the option...... but then again it was a PITA to go lock em in all the time
