Default gas cap was loose, check engine light is on.....

Will the check engine light go off on it's own or do I need to have it reset somewhere?

If you don't have a scanner yet, you should get one. The blutooth apps/dongles (jscan or bluedriver) these days are really dynamic with the amount of info they provide you. You'll get your money's out of one. At the very least, a super cheap scanner to pull OBDII codes and reset em.
