Gas tank replaced for fuel spillage
Well, after picking it up and finally getting to the gas station to do a full fill up from nearly bone dry, (I was nice to my mechanic and ran it WAY low before taking it in) I am happy to report, problem solved. I never had the fuel spillage problem all that much, it was slow filling that was the issue. Now I can set the pump on the highest notch and it works perfectly. My dealer is great, they read the letter, no arguments at all, just ordered the part. They didn't even look at the Jeep. It is not actually a recall according to my mechanic and service writer. It is a warranty extension for the life of the vehicle for this problem only. So basically, if you have the problem, you get a new tank out of the deal, but if not, no reason to take it in until you do. As for the fuel pump question, I assume it is in the tank, since when I saw my old one, and my mechanic explained what the problem with the tank was, there was a gaping whole in the top of the tank. So it looks like they use your old fuel pump for the new tank, which makes sense. Good luck to the rest of you guys.

Perhaps this is a good excuse for beefier/replacement skid for the gas tank. It does get a little old washing that one corner of the Jeep. I'll investigate replacing mine. Maybe I can use this time to get the skid painted. I'd rather not pay $90/HR though.
Not a dumb question. The gas tank uses a single unit that has the sending unit/breather/filter in one. It drops into the tank from that "big hole"...lol
