Gascap light!!
Alright about a year ago I ripped my evap canister off. I replaced it and I started getting the gas cap light on my dash. I have taken it to dealer around 7 times. They replaced the ECM. And also replaced the evap again. I have no idea what to do now. I am tired of taking it to the dealer with no success. One time I took it there and they said everything was good I started it up and gas cap light was on wtf!! I'm ready to take things in my own hands but have no idea what to try next. I'm tired of reseting the code just to see it come back in a week or so. Any ideas would be great.
Not to state the obvious, but maybe the gas cap is bad. If you or the dealer changed it, disregard. It is possible that one of the lines came loose or is damaged. I would trace everything if replacing the gas cap doesn't work.
Maybe I will try that. Dealership said it was fine don't know if they replaced it. They did a smoke test and came back PCM. After that didn't work they tested it again and came back a line leak. I should just start replacing all the lines.
Mine comes on all the time. If there's no other problems, just make sure it clicks three times when your twisting the cap on. That's what the dealership told me and it works. And like others said, mabey just replace the cap.
I encountered a similar problem. My gas cap light would intermittently come on at start-up and remain on for a few miles. I would pull over to remove and reinstall the gas cap and I even bought a couple of new gas caps. Eventually it stopped altogether. I long suspected it was connected to the faulty rollover valve in my old gas tank but the alert stopped popping up well before the dealer replaced my tank under warranty.
If you did the smoke test and everything is fine 99% of the time it will be your gas cap that was the case on mine. make sure you tighten the cap when it clicks 3 times and if it still comes on, you can get the gas cap at auto zone or eveb go to your jeep dealer ship and get a new 1.
