"GASCAP" warning came on

I went wheelin with some friends a few weeks ago and a couple days after the trip a "GASCAP" warning came on where the odometer is. The gas cap is definitely closed and I've filled up a few times since then and still have the issue. I tried disconnecting the battery and plugging it back in, and it worked at first, but the warning came back. I looked underneath briefly and didnt find any loose hoses or cables. And the EVAP canister seems to be in good shape still (wasn't sure if that had anything to do with it).
Has anyone had any issues with this after a wheelin trip? Like I said, I haven't fully investigated it but wanted to see if anyone knew where to start looking so I have an idea of where to start.
Thanks,
Jared

How many miles you got on it? 'Cause it might be something a bit more serious. I was on a road trip about 8 hours from where I used to live in Colorado to another part of CO when my gas cap light came on and stayed on. I figured it was loose, but it wasn't... messed with that several times... then my check engine light came on.... when I finally reached my destination I immediately had a shop do a diagnostic on it. Turned out to be the EGR valve. Had to have it replaced. Could be a similar situation... could not be... good luck

Had the same thing happen to me. Turns out i left the gas cap off when I was trying to get out of the gas station before the crackhead hit me up for cash
After replacing the cap down the street, the "gascap" warning was still there. I checked and rechecked the cap, the hoses, etc.
I fully realize this sounds ridiculously obvious and simple, but I finally cycled thru the odometer menu (odometer, trip A, trip B), and when it came back around to the odometer setting, the "gascap" warning was gone.
I'm sure you've covered that procedure, but sometimes the most simple solution gets overlooked so I thought I'd mention it.
Good Luck

I started getting the "GASCAP" message this weekend. I checked to make sure the cap was tight and cycled through the computer messages (i.e. Trip A and Trip B, etc.) but the message didn't go away. Took the Jeep into the dealership this morning and as luck would have it the message didn't come on. They checked the computer history and didn't find any record of the message but did find that there was an upgrade to my engine software so they installed the update. So far today it's not reappeared. If there is a problem it shouldn't be because of the Evap Can since the Jeep is only 7 months old, never been off road and has just barely 5000 miles. The guys at the dealership were very helpful so I'll just keep my eyes open for the message to reappear and my fingers crossed that it won't.
