Default Gears

I have a 2007 Unlimited X Hardtop w/out tow package and have been trying to read up on gears.
What gears are in the Rubicon, Sahara, and X? W/ tow package and without.

Also what would be the best gears for normal daily driving on the road / highway?

I plan on going to a 33" tire and pull a small utility trailer from time to time. Is there any benefit to changing the gears I have?

If there is a thread already out there please just send me the link.

Thanks!

The Rubi has ratio 4.1 and also a 4.1 transfer case.

Normally, you have 2.72 with the X or Sahara, and 3.73 with the tow package. Some X and Sahara have 4.1 (option).

If you want to put 33", you're okay with 2.72, but 3.73 is better. If you go higher than 35", I would recommend at least 4.1

Regearing is expensive. Be sure that you know how you want to modify your JK.

3.21, isn't it? I believe the t/c is 2.72.

yes, its 3.21, not 2.72. 2.72 at the tc, not the axle. I'd say 4.10 gears would be your best bet with 33" tires. I wouldn't say theres any benefit unless you have 3.21 gears now. 3.73 would handle it fine as well, with just a little power loss.

I agree. 3.73 ok. 4.10 better with 33s.

Is your JK an auto or stick?
If it's an auto you should have the 4.10 gears, as all auto's in 07 came with them. If it's a stick you most likely have the 3.21's.
As far as going to 33" tires, the wife has a 2007 unlimited "X" with an auto and has the 4.10 gears, with stock 2.45 16" tires and it's OK however if I were going to install 33's on her JK, I'd want at least 4.56, most likely 4.88's.

Do you have the window sticker for the Jeep? That will tell you what gears came from the factory.

2nd owner. No window sticker. I'm getting the build sheet from the dealership.
