I read in another thread that someone's getting better gas mileage with Bosch +4 IR Fusion spark plugs. Anyone else get better mileage after upgrading their plugs?

I traded my 08 Lexus RX400h for my '08 Sahara Unlimited. And you are exactly right, the engine always shut down as needed and restarted as well. In fact it didn't even have a starter in it. You turned the key and it worked off batteries until you accelerated then the engine kicked on then when you coasted it shut off.

Spoke with the dealer and you're right I have 3.73's. Pearl-drum-man, you just made my day. It's as though I just regeared for free since I was thinking I was going to have to do it in the future.

Hellbound, many people are running 28 psi under? That's 7 psi under inflated. The negatives are poor mileage and more rolling resistance/greater wear on the tires. I don't know why people would do that. I've run 5 psi over in all my vehicles for quite some time and actually not only have my tires worn normally, I'd say they even lasted longer because of less rolling resistance. And, because I drive very very carefully for high mileage, I put much less stress on my tires. In my previous vehicle I got about 80k miles out of my tires.

Are you sure about this? When I ordered my 08 unlimited X (same as the guy you are telling has 3.73's) I had to specifically ask for the tow package to be included to get the 3.73 gears...otherwise it would have 3.21. Unless he has the factory tow package he could have the 3.21's.

Manual X models get 3.21 unless with the towing package
Auto X models are standard with the 3.73

That's a stock unlimited, auto with 4.10's.
So Far im averaging 22.6MPG.Most of my traveling is highway though. Cruising speeds are in the 55 ish range. Didnt even think she'd get over 20 to be honest.
Stock Rubi-6 Speed backed up with 4.10's

Theres a ton more resistance at those speeds, especially on teh Wrangler.
I have taken 6 trips in my JK and I PROMISE you I get better gas mileage at 80+ MPH.

I was getting like 14.5, now I am 13.6... if I keep working at it, I am confident I can get it down to 11.5.

I have 5K on my jeep, it has an auto and 3.73 gears and got 23mpg on a relatively flat highway last week (60 miles or so), I'm pretty happy with that, hopefully 33s or 35s don't change it too much

velocity squared for air resistance, so it is physically impossible to get better mileage.

unless you roll down hill and gravity is doing all the work but somewhere you have to go back up hill.

You are correct, at some point you do need to go uphill. At 2200 - 2500 rpm you will maintain speed going up that hill and use less fuel. When your rpms are at 1500-1900 you will lose power and the fuel use goes way up trying to get back up to speed.

The fuel efficiency at the correct powerband is better than running it at low rpms on the highway.
