Wannabe- Hi! you are absolutely correct. I used the term underdriven so our friends here on the forum with no auto repair background would easily grasp the concept. I have a tendency to oversimplify so that some explanations are easier to understand. Every thread I comment on I try to be clear as possible. Thanks!

Ok, sounds good enough. FWIW, I don't have a smidget of auto repair background. I do understand the concepts sometimes, though.

I was wondering if maybe on the older trucks with true "granny" gears that the granny gear was a geared down version of the 1st gear... like maybe 1st gear * 2 or something to that effect.

I'm still trying to learn alot of auto concepts so don't think I"m being a smartarse if I ask what seems to be a stupid question.
