Grunt When Shifting Transmission (auto)
Hey guys,
I don't know if this is common, normal, or something that should be remedied:
Whenever I shift my automatic transmission to drive, or reverse, while usually starting off in park, my Jeep makes a bit of a grunt. It's a bit hard to explain, the best I can say is you can HEAR the transmission shifting it into gear. It's not really a squeak, just a a mechanical grunting noise. It's not super audible, but it is certainly easy to hear. It usually is loudest when the Jeep has been sitting, but it'll still do it if you stop at a red light and shift between reverse and drive. You can also feel a slight vibration coming from the gas pedal as the noise is made, (obviously the gears being changed.)
My question is: Is this normal? Do most autos make this audible grumble/creaking noise when shifting the transmission? Could be a sign of something wrong?
Jeep's info: Just under 14,000 miles, 2009 X. With such a new Jeep, I don't think the transmission fluid could be a problem, but with Chrysler you never really know. Let me know what you all think.

Thanks man,
the best way I can describe it as is a mechanical creak. You can feel it a little too. It's nothing extraordinary but its certainly there and noticeable. The car shifts fine and drives fine, but I was wondering if this noise was not normal.
I did some research and apparently a lot of Cherokees seem to have something similar but usually with mileage, mine is still pretty darn new so I don't know.

my 08 makes the same noise you describe. a mechanical gear noise as the transmission engages. Only lasts for about a second at most. Happens when put into driver or reverse from park. Def. not the sound of brake moan.
Mine has always done this, even when it was brand new.

It's the drive train wraping up on the brakes, kinda like when your at a stop light and you let it creep by reducing brake pedal pressure and it moves a little and you get that groan, nothing to worry about it's just cold pads and an elevated engine idle ,
no, thats not what we are talking about here.
