Default Hard Top Compatibility

I just put a 2015 freedom top on my 2008 JK. It fits perfectly except the center footman doesn't line up. Anyone have issues with that? And does anyone have a DIY fix? Thanks in advance!

They change the footman location in the newer models . You would have to move it if possible I never looked at one myself to see if it's movable

Can't just unscrew the footman loop, slide it over, drill new holes and re-attach in the new location? Or, leave the old one, and just add a new one to the new location.

Are you asking me, or in general?

I guess both. Is the loop on the '08 not just held by 2 torx screws? Why not just relocate the footman loop you have to the new location. Or, add a new footman loop all together. Part # 55177497AB

2015 Jeep Wrangler UN RUBICON Limited. #55177497AB: FOOTMAN LOOP. Hold Down.

I think in the earlier models it was riveted in; but should be easy enough to drill out the rivets and relocate it still.

Then again, I've also known two people who have run the newer top on an '07 and an '08 who never bothered relocating it; and to the best of my knowledge never had any leaking issues. We also tried pushing up on the panels after install, and they seemed plenty secure without the footman latched.

I could see that, especially since the soft tops don't even utilize the center loop.

If it were me, and there was space to just install a 4th loop, I would probable just buy one (part number above), drill two holes, and install. I'm not certain how far the loop shifted over when they made that change though.....based on my dirty dog sunscreen that has attachments for both older and newer models, it might be too close of a fit to do that. If that were the case, I'd try just running without worrying about that center lock at the windshield and see if is ok as suggested above.

I honestly haven't taken it apart yet. I've read that you can relocate the frontman loop over to the new spot. And you can buy a new header or just modify the current one. I was wondering if it's really necessary. I haven't had any issues thus far by not doing anything.

Get the tsb/recall fix kit from the dealer. It relocates the footman loop to allow the 2010 and newer freedom tops to work on the older JK
