Question Hard top sound dampening and insulating panels, which one ?!?

Hello all!

I'm looking into cutting down the noise of my hard top and I found several companies making dampening panels:

HotHead Headliners
http://www.hotheadheadliners.com/

Boom Mat™ Hardtop Sound Deadening Headliner
http://www.designengineering.com/cat...ning-headliner

RuggedRidge Top Sound Deadener
http://www.ruggedridgeoffroad.com/jeep-hard-tops.php

Soundcoat

I was wondering if anyone had reviews to share about them ?
Anyone has actual experience *comparing* them ??
That would be pretty helpful, because they are all very pricey! (especially shipping+customs+taxes to Canada)

I might also end up making my own... I was thinking:
- 1-2 layers of heat reflective material (I don't think the kits on the market have that...)
- 1" - 1.25" of sound absorbing material
and maybe also:
- heat reflective material
- thin black neoprene or dark car liner for finishing touch
(I was also thinking about making a section of neoprene between the two front panels, with velcro, to seal for the wintertime!)

If you have experience making you own, plz share
I was also wondering if anybody had the whole top covered with car liner... that would be cool too! I don't like the white plastic...

Thanks!

P.S.: Will start by resolving my wind noise problem... see posts #11, 12 and 13: https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/show...=1#post2503301 if you're looking for solutions too!

I have another suggestion for you, its a spray on material called Lizard Skin. Supposedly it will lower the temperature and also acts as a sound dampening substance.

mmmh, thanks!

1 coat of that
http://www.lizardskin.com/car-ceramic-insulation.html

and then one of
http://www.lizardskin.com/sound-control-insulation.html

would be amazing I guess!

I would consider this for the rest of the top, but for the recessed areas I prefer the solution of a 1" thick sound damper

As you know, I have the soundcoat panels. These are the real mccoy and do a great job dampening sound, plus look great. I have no personal experience with the others.

Oh, and these still look brand new after 2 years of use, including outside summer storage of my top.

yup, they look really like THE product out there...

but 2 problems for me;
1) finding them; Northridge only has the 4D version now
2) they are expensive, and with the import to Canada (Nortridge4x4.ca doesn't have them), +shipping +custom brokerage fees + 15% tax, it will be as expensive as a new top!!

...unless I could get my hand on the material from their Canadian distributor (if they have one) and make my own panels.

P.S.: I LOOOOOVE the sunburst orange color... I'm jealous!! had to get mine used, insurance for a new one was a steel... will probably buy a Rubicon in 2013... hope they still make it! (my GF hates that color... ha! I don't care) :P

Just to help eliminate confusion:

Boom Mat and Soundcoat are the same product.

Maybe you can find the product under the Boom Mat name in Canada.

ok, thanks for eliminating confusion!
In fact I saw Boom Mat it in my local performance store, and I asked them for it, got a quote, but when I ordered the supplier said it was not in stock and no idea when/if it would be back in stock... :(
