Hardtop Wiring Harness Install??
Thanks for all the posts. Going to pick up hard top next weekend and seems install isn't too terrible (wiring that is).
Any OBDII scanner I can buy to flash at home? Would be nice to complete everything without anyone touching it.

This video is a pretty thorough walk through.
It matches then instructions that come with the Mopar kit. I was going to have the dealer do since I'll most likely need to have the Starscan done for the defrost to function. But I decided to take a whack at it and so far it's an easy install.
EDIT: All done. Wiper works and washer works. Defrost wont stay illuminated so I'll be heading to the dealer for that.

Greetings,
You do not need to go to the dealer to activate the defroster. All you need is an OBD2 interface for your smartphone and the OBD JScan app (I have the Android version). For the interface, I purchased a Vgate iCar Pro Bluetooth 4.0 (BLE) OBD2 scanner for about $27 (during an Amazon sale). I forget what the JScan app cost, but I think it was around $20 for a single license.
To use JScan, you plug the Vgate iCar scanner into the OBD2 port of your Jeep, turn the ignition to "Run" (without starting the engine), launch the JScan app on your phone and "pair" to the scanner via a wireless Bluetooth connection. It will give you only basic info until you pay for a license which you can do via the app. Once you have a license and your JScan app is unlocked, you'll be able to use all of its features and change the settings of your Jeep. A single license it linked to a single VIN number. So, if your family has two Jeeps, you'll need to purchase two licenses (one for each vehicle's VIN). I think your can also transfer your license to another VIN if you sell the vehicle linked to your original license.
To configure the rear-window features of your hardtop in JScan, use the following settings:
Adaptation > Miscellaneous settings > Rear Defrost Enable/Disable
Adaptation > Miscellaneous settings > Rear Wiper Enable/Disable
.Once you enable the Rear Defrost setting, it will stay on and work as if your hardtop were installed at the factory. The Rear Wiper setting doesn't seem to be necessary because my rear wiper worked without the setting being enabled, but I went ahead and enabled it anyway.
There are lots of other settings that you can adjust. For example, I configured my fog lights as my daytime running lights and I turned down my TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) to 27 psi so it would not trigger so quickly. You can also temporarily set your idle speed higher when you need to run at a higher rpm to do maintenance or testing.
The JScan app is good in the sense that it is designed for Jeeps and is aware of the unique features and settings they have. This is especially nice for some of the unique features of the Rubicon. But the app is rife with misspellings and some duplications. Plus, many of the descriptions are not very good. But, even with its faults, I think it is the best you can get for a Jeep JK or JKU. And it gives you the power to control your Jeep your way without paying a fee to a sketchy dealer. Just don't attempt to adjust something that is beyond your skill level.
I installed the hardtop upgrade kit a few months ago on my 2010 JK Rubi and it works perfectly. I purchased the latest version of the kit (82210215AG) which includes an update for one of the connectors (Mopar removed the ambiguity regarding Step 16 by including a pre-installed replacement pin for the CAV 27 connection on Connector "E" (older versions just have a pre-stripped wire) so it is clear that the old wire is totally replaced by the new one---you do not splice). I also tracked down the 4-volume set of Mopar factory service manuals for the 2008 JK/JKU on eBay (this was the last year that printed service manuals were available and their wiring and connector diagrams were still correct for my 2010 Rubi). It settled all questions regarding the hardtop upgrade kit. (By the way, before purchasing the print manuals, I purchased the electronic version and its schematics and diagrams are horrible. It uses an old out-dated virtual Windows system that is limited in resolution and size.) If you have a 2007-2010 JK or JKU, I highly recommend getting a used copy of the printed factory service manuals. If you have a 2011-2018 JK or JKU, you'll have to suffer with an electronic manual if you want the official factory stuff. In my experience, the factory service manuals are way more detailed and complete than all the third-party manuals, regardless of format.

Great info on the scanner, I'll be looking into that.
The local dealer did the update for free so I wont need it for that.
EDIT UPDATE. Bought that Vgate iCar Pro Bluetooth and purchased the JSCAN license. So easy to navigate.
