Default Has anyone built an elevated sleeping platform for a JKU?

I'm thinking about sleeping in the back of my JKU on solo exploring trips. I found a great mod that makes a flat floor but that doesn't solve the problem of where to put all your stuff when sleeping. Taking everything out of the Jeep doesn't appeal to me at all.

I've seen several builds on other vehicles where people built a sleeping platform that's high enough for gear (like coolers) to fit underneath. On a JK, I guess this would be about level with the top of the tailgate. I'd want this to be removable of course.

Has anyone built or thought about building something like this?

Thanks!

I haven't seen anything, but I always had the idea of creating a hammock-like creation and hanging it from the roll bars. You could keep your gear underneath you at night and remove it when not in use!

Just throwing ideas out there!! Good luck, and if you do build something let's see pics!!

Would be great to do something removable. I was looking at making a long bean bag as a comfy way of dealing with the back seat rise. Ended up just staggering two swing seat squabs. No storage underneath but I just chuck stuff on top
.
Will be interested to see what you come up with.

I'm not so sure a hammock would work since the roll bar ends far short of the rear of the Jeep. Plus, you need extra length for the cords in addition to space to sleep and there's not much to spare in a JKU.

I've made significant progress on a platform. Pictures in the near future.

I've been thinking an elevated platform with drawers underneath that extend from the tailgate all the way to the front seats. And where the backseat footwell is its deeper for bigger things or cooler or what have you! Trying to draw it up now slowly day by day and figure out the material list. Maybe a small control center back there also! Just ideas!

I know I saw a build thread of someone doing a hanging platform. Either on here or expedition portal, I'll try and hunt it down.

Make something like this, But make drawers instead of a lid that way you can access your stuff while there is stuff in the back

Not a JK, but here is a nice one over at Expedition Portal. Good discussion about the topic, and some pics throughout. 'College Kid' did put a hanging cot together that slept 2, some pics on page 5 I believe.

am I crazy, hanging cot in wrangler - Expedition Portal
