Heat crack in windshield
Mine snapped like a bomb. I seriously thought the f'n windshield was going to explode. But nope a crack driver side corner to the center approx. 2" from the bottom. I will not replace until spring. This happened with 40,000+ mileage on it. Wonder if the gas puking after warranty was out has anything to do with it?
it cracks because it is so thin. there should be no reason why if you are under warranty that they will not replace it. (they cannot prove user error if you even consider it that.) i have had 7 windshields on my jeep from stones and such. i do realize that many of them are because of the up and down nature but with stronger/thicker glass they would be chips not cracks. on the bright side of things i live in MA where there is a $0 deductible on glass replacement (all glass)
A couple of weeks back we had freezing rain followed by wet snow which resulted in a heavy acumulation of Ice on the windshield.
I turned the car on high heat and also turned on the fromt widshield defroster to speed up the ice removal process,
With the car parked in the driveway I heard a loud bang as if a large stone had hit the windshield. and at that time I noticed that the windshield cracked from the inside of the vehicle.
Had it checked out and it was confirmed that there were no stone chips and thatthe crack was on the inner surface of the glass.
I contacted the dealer, Took vehicle in and report with pictures were sent to head office to see if they would cover as my vehicle is still under warranty.
Reply was that windshields are only covered for a period of two years or 28K kms. I now have 30K on the vehicle.
I personally contacted Jeep Canada and got nowhere.
Had I been aware that the windshield would crack when the normal defrost process was utilized, I could have prevented this situation from hapening.
Unfortunately, as much as I liked my past and present Jeep products, this incident and lack of accountability on the part of Jeep Canada has greatly influenced mine and my family's next vehicle purchasing decision.
Has anyone else experienced this or a similar issue recently?

I had a really odd occurence of heat cracking the windshield way back when, and oddly it wasn't even that cold out when it happened if I recall. Maybe a 40-50° day and I had it on to defrost some moisture and just hadn't diverted it back to normal vents yet when it cracked just above the defrost vent. I thought wtf! But windshields on these things don't cost too much and are typically something to address every few years anyhow due to chips so meh. At the time I wasn't aware that could even happen, but it did. I could see it more if frozen ice and whatnot on there and you have both REALLY cold and REALLY hot fighting. There is no doubt that my jeep heats up dang fast and that heater is hot.....not to mention the defrost on these things is much closer to the actual glass than most vehicles.
Coming from the cracked windshield capital of the world - they only crack (in the defroster case) if there was previous dmage such as even the most tiny stone chip which are hard to see. My R8 had a chip, got it repaired literally 2 minutes after it happened then when I got it out of the next winter storage it was cracked - $2400 damage
I certainly have seen a variety of windshields crack from defrost on high when ice on windshield. I learned the hard way, but kind of the opposite. I sprayed cold hose water on a windshield that was sitting in the hot sun and it cracked. I've taught my wife and kids to never let those temperature extremes happen. In the winter I use the heat, but not the defrost so it does not directly hit the windshield. Our jeeps produce ridiculous levels of hot air!
