Going through the various aftermarket websites I see there's a few different hoods with enhanced venting for the engine compartment. Even the Wild Boar Grill is claiming "Significant increase in air flow to the front of your engine compartment". I'm new to the Jeep universe, infact waiting for my first one at the moment. I was wondering why all the interest in the extra air flow. Are the JK's prone to over heating in certain conditions or is this just to maximize power by keeping temps down around the intake?

 

It's because every single piece of the JK is customizable and somebody will gladly take your money and tell you it's an upgrade.
