Hello Everyone, new guy here.
Hello everyone, I just bought a used 2008 JK about a month ago and love it! After driving it for awhile I have just a few questions built up.
First of all, I have read that it is bad for the 4WD system to engage it on flat pavement. However, 99% of my driving will be on paved roads (except the occasional beach run) so is it a bad thing that it will not be engaged often? Should I find a dirt road once a month so the 4WD can be used?
As for the last question... Apparently the windows are tinted on the Jeep and it is peeling a bit on the passenger side. Is there anything I can use to get it stuck back up there? I doubt the little glue stick that I have here will hold

You can use 4wd on STRAIGHT paved roads without harm. The problems start when you are in 4wd and turning because the front wheels will want to slip a little to compensate for the difference in path length. The only reason pavement is bad in 4wd is because traction is too good too allow the front wheels to slip a little.

you shouldnt have to engage the 4 wheel drive system in your jeep just for maint. purposes..
our jeeps do not have locking hubs so the front axle actually turns all the time keeping the U-joints and seals lubricated...
when 4 wheel drive is engaged the only difference is that the front axle receives power from the drivetrain....
if you want to use it and test it.. find a gravel parking lot.. engage it and drive around a short bit, then turn it off before returning to dry pavement...

Thanks for the replies everyone! It's good to know that I don't have to engage 4WD to keep the parts moving. And as for the window tint, I'm not too worried, it is just a cosmetic thing.
It's going to take some time to get used to the Jeep, I just moved over from a Silverado SS and I am sure missing the power but do not regret for an instant getting the Jeep!
Also, one more thing came to mind...I had a reoccurring issue with my Silverado when going through even slight puddles... If it splashed just right on the O2 sensor connection it would short the O2 out making the truck run awful. Should I worry about any electronic getting wet, or is it good until it starts flowing into the intake? lol

Im a tint guy.. i have ALL my windows tinted.. 5% on all 5 surrounding windows and 35% on the shield.. best thing to do is find someone in your area who tints.. have them peel and re tint the window.. shouldnt be more than about 25 bucks for one window..
as for the water thing.. i dont think there is any problems with what ive read.. the biggest problem is the location of the air box.. poorly placed and can intake water if you really splash a deep hole hard.. but ive personally hit puddles on the road and splashed over the windshield and never had any problems.. most things on your jeep should be sealed pretty good from the factory.. enjoy!



i just got an answer for window tint problem which you cannot repair. it means that ex-owner got some cheap tint on it and i would say just get em off..
