What is the blk plastic cannister approximately 8 x 11 x 2.5 inches with two hoses attached near rear axle and transfer case. Does it hurt to operate it with a hole in it???

That's your evap canister. It's part of the emissions control system. You can drive with a hole in it, or without the hole cannister for that matter. You will probably get a DTC on the instument panel though. Go to the dealership and buy a new one. If I recall correctly, they don't cost that much. Maybe $60 or so. Replacing it yourself is pretty simple also.

That is ur evap canister. Yes it reduces your efficiency and will throw codes and give you a gas cap light. They are cheap and easy to replace..... buy a skid plate or relocate it.

Should also ask if you can order a evap skid from a 2012 from the dealer too, might be cheaper that a aftermarket solution,

First part I ordered for my 2011 was a evap skid already put a good dent in it too
