Thanks for all the words of wisdom. I'll do well to remember it in the future. It looks like Geico is gonna pick-up the tab, and I'm gonna squeak by with only a $500 deductible for a replacement engine. Whether or not Geico gets their money from Havoline, I'll never know. The shop feels pretty confident in what they've found that there was little to no oil put in their since the last change, and the paperwork from Havoline says they put 6 qts in. What it boiled down to was this: If Havoline would have performed the change that their paperwork described, would my Jeep be in the state that it's in right now? The evidence says no. Whether they put 1 or 2 qts in, go called away, and forgot to top it off...I'll never know. But they definitely didn't do the job I paid them to do, and that combined with my lack of vigilance has resulted in the requirement of a new engine. I can't prevent shops from doing half-ass jobs on my Jeep, but I will damn sure verify as much as I can in the future. Thanks everyone for adding your thoughts.

Look we all own Jeeps and I'll back a Jeep owner in a heart beat but Havoline isn't responsible for anything. 07 and 08's are common for ring issues resulting in major oil consumption.

Now geico may cover it ?

In the end everyone pays for the engine issue with higher insurance rates

@ Jiffy Lube, they always take you out to show all the caps have been are on and tight, and they show the all fliud levels are good.
That is an excellent procedure.

Care to elaborate on why you (without any knowledge of the state of my engine) think Havoline is completely absolved of liability? Oh ye who goes to bat for fellow Jeep drivers in a heart beat? I wait on baited breath to hear your elaborate defamation statement. I hope it's not another baseless assertion like the one you've provided.

Is that meant for me? Maybe you should carefully peruse my two posts in this thread. First one I suggested you go easy on Havoline because you never checked oil. I didn't take anyone's side. Second one I wrote that Jiffylube proving to the owner that the work was properly done is an excellent idea. If you are wounded by my posts, that is entirely self-inflicted.

Absolutely not Mark. I'm sorry for not being more specific and using quote- tags. The gentleman above was correct in identifying the individual my statement was directed at. I appreciate your constructive insight. Please accept my apologies for the confusion.

Thanks! Nailed it. Looks like it was clear to someone else who deserved a statement like that. Mark, it was certainly not you. However, I can see why you thought so. Again, my apologies for the lack of forum etiquette.

I have an 08 with 120 miles, it used to burn oil, but I changed to 5-30 oil, and it stopped burning oil, but I lost 1.5 mpg.
