help with compass sticking
i just installed the daystar dash top thing. since then my compass reading has said west no matter which way i turn. i never unplugged it or anything so not sure. wondered if anyone else had it happen or knows how to fix it. thanks.
are you keeping a cell phone on top of it? if so it will mess your compass up and it is a bugger to reset!
In my case, it wasn't the blackberry on there - it was that when I attached the compass module to the Daystar one, I put it on upside down. Took it off and turned it around and reset the compass and everything worked fine. I usually have a phone or GPS sitting on there and it doesn't seem to affect the compass reading any. But I have heard that putting certain electronic stuff there will hamper the compass reading.
Take the top off and double check to see if the compass module isn't on there wrong.

I have found that the front panel, cell phone will screw up compass. I mounted velcro and a mount on the edge (closest to the windshield) and mounted my phone up there, when I use the GPS feature. Doesn't effect the compass at that location.

Manual Compass Calibration
NOTE: Before attempting a manual compass calibration, the engine must be running and the transmission in the P (Park) position (if equipped).
Compass calibration can also be requested. To manually calibrate the compass, you must first enter the variance mode. Press the and hold the left button (located on the instrument cluster) for approximately 10 seconds to enter the variance mode, and release the button when the VAR symbol appears. The current variance value will also be displayed. Once in the variance mode, it is necessary to release the button, and then press and hold it again (approximately 10 seconds) until CAL is displayed (solid not blinking). Manual compass calibration has been initiated.
Drive the vehicle slowly in one or more circles under 5 mph (8 km/h) in an area free from large metal objects until the CAL symbol is extinguished. When the CAL symbol no longer is displayed, the compass is calibrated and should display correct headings. Verify proper calibration by checking North (N), South (S), East (E), and West (W). If the compass does not appear accurate, repeat the calibration procedure in another area.
