Ok, I own a 09 X 2 door hard top. I found a sunrider top for sale used that I am going to purchase, only it does not come with the door surrounds.
My question is are there specific Door Surrounds for the Sunrider top, or will any Door surrounds for a 2 door JK from 07 to 09 work? I did some research with the search function and found this thread https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/show...windows&page=4 which leads me to believe there are different door surrounds for the JK.
I found a set on ebay, and I asked if this set of door surrounds is for a sunrider top. The owner of the auction told me all soft tops for JK's are sunriders, therefore all door surrounds for JK's are the same.
Now I am very confused.

I think the regular (non-sunrider) was available only for some of the 07 year. I think by 08 everything was sunrider. No idea if the door surrounds were different for the regular top.

 

the door surrounds are different and the drivers side is on backorder, not being produced right now, so i wouldnt buy that one if u want to be able to use it any time soon

Thank you for your help! I hate to spend this much, but the top is useless without the surrounds I think? I just would hate to spend this kind of money for surrounds that would not work with the Sunrider top! This guy says they will work and he has good feedback. I guess he knows what he is talking about?

 

yikes, 235 for surrounds is expensive, yeah they list for 92 each but moparpartsamerica.com has them for 63 BUT of course you cannot get the drivers side

have you tried looking for a complete soft top in the forsale section of forum?

 

Yes, That is where I found the one I am going to get tomorrow. The guy has everything but the Door surrounds. I did find a complete top for sale in Albuquerque in the ForSale section, but he never replied. You know looking at the picture of the ebay auction I still think the guy is mistaken. I do not believe the surrounds pictured are for the 2 door sunrider top. I may be wrong but I think I will hold off on that purchase. Just smells a little fishy. I may be completely wrong!

ah ok, those surrounds do look like the sunrider ones, you see the black lever on the one on the right, thats where it locks in

 

Wow so let me get this straight not all sunrider kits will fit on all JKs??
This is a good thing to know, I thought if it was a Sunrider and it was for a JK it would work?? So which year(s) were different? Is it just the 2007 year, so one would have to buy a year 2007 sunrider kit for it to work with the 2007 JK, a 2008 would not work etc...

 

Ya I do see that now that you point it out! I have not seen ones like that. I think that the door surrounds look different on the 09 Sunrider tops? I think the latch might be constructed differently? I should just trade someone my Hardtop for the Sunrider top and be done with it. I just worry about the winter months.

 

man you are confused lol....a sunrider top will work on any JK, its just that some of the early 07's didnt come with the sunrider soft top, they were just regular soft tops...that said a sunrider soft top with its door surrounds will work on any JK, ie an 09 sunrider will work on an 07 or 08.....the tops are supposed to come with the surrounds, buying one used you wont always get them, I think some people keep them to use with their bikini tops
