Default help pls. loose unknown tube in engine bay?????

i found this tube loose and rubbing against my engine belt. what is it and what is it supposed to be connected to? thanks!!

Heh heh. Hippies I've known drive old beaters that are often the dirtiest air-polluting pieces of crap on the road.

The breather tube is harmless. Most of the emissions stuff that once kept our engines from running right have been replaced with computer engine management. As a result, we have the cleanest running engines ever, plus you can buy a stock car/truck with more HP than we ever had in the "good old days".

I'd still rather maintain a '61 327 than a '01 anything!

The hose in the picture above routes filtered air into the engine head/block. It keeps dirt and dust out of the engine.

so i reconnected it, i must have come off when i took opned my air box. this was a wil ago so it means its been loose for a long wile. Is there anything i can do to help flush out any dust that got in, maybe new oil? thanks
