Default HELP! Sheared off lugnut

I was tightening a lug nut and it sheared off right at the base. I took it to a couple places and they said they couldn't get it off. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Try welding a socket to it.

I was going to try that but I don't have access to a welding machine

You could also try hammering a socket on over top of it...not much left for it to bite on though. Find a socket that is just a bit to small and hammer it on...just be careful you don't damage the rim

I will try that but there isn't much to grab on to. I don't think I will be able to save the stud. I'm thinking about trying to drill the stud out.

Since you were willing to take it to "a couple places", why not take it to a professional welder? Not an auto mechanic who can weld, but a professional welder who can take care of that without causing further damage?

Might be able to grind the back of the stud off and hammer it through

Worst case scenario- I had a friend take a hole saw to one in a similar situation. He was able to fix it after the wheel was removed. It wasn't a pretty fix though and obviously the wheel gets discarded unless you have someone weld a new center into it.

You could try drilling out the lug then replacing it.
