Default Hi-Lift mount stock X

Wanted some place safe to mount my jack. Saw another mount here on the back tire but didn't want it sticking up in my rear view. Drilled two holes through the tire bracket. Used two 1/2" by 6" bolts, 5 1/2" would have been perfect. Locking nuts to hold it on. Fender washers inside to spread out the load against the tire mount. Thick plastic washer protects the tire from a screw that sticks out from the jacking mechanism. Have to use a wrench and vise grips to take it off, can't just turns the nuts with a wrench. Might put a cable lock on it if I get nervous about it being stolen. Oh, also have two spacers inside the tire mount to shorten the screws by a 1/2".

No brackets. Just drilled two holes through the stock mount where the other two rim stud holes are. Just pushed two 6" by 1/2" bolts through. Had a spacer and washer on them to shorten them slightly and reinforce them against the mount. Another washer on the other end to hold the jack on and self locking bolts. I had wanted bolts with thread all the way to the head so I could put a lug nut on to keep it from turning and protect the stud hole on the rim but they don't hit. Someone has to have a 3/4" wrench and a vise grip to get it off now. Otherwise the bolts just spin when you try to loosen them. If you get a lock with a hasp that is 1 3/4" at the centers it would go through the holes in the jack and you could use a cable to lock it up.

This is the only other picture I have a the moment. I can take some more tomorrow.

How about getting two more nuts and run them down the bolt to the tire carrier. That way it will lock the bolts to prevent turining, will save your threads from damage with the vice-grips, and then put a piece of plastic tubing over the bolt threads to protect your wheel when you take that off.

Put another nut on the bolt, it will hold the plastic tubing in place and prevent you from over tightening the outside nut when you tighten down on the hi-lift.

Or not.

Couldn't find any bolts that had threads all the way to the head. These have a plain shaft with about 2 inches of thread on the end. I had wanted to do what you were saying but couldn't find a bolt at Ace to do that.

Right. Bolts have standard thread lengths. you won't find anything like that unless it's a special manufacturing thing.

You might be able to fashion some steel or aluminum plate punched for a carriage bolt. But, that would take some effort to make.
