is this a legit feature or just a factor of how u drive stick? I've definitely noticed it hanging on hills sometimes, but i just thought it was the fact that i half engage the clutch on a hill before i let off the brake to minimize rollback. I have a '10 sahara as well. if it is a real feature-is it standard?

09 have it as well, you need to add more gas, i was confused the first couple of times. I have been driving stick my whole life and was always told to feather the clutch when I bought my 09 I stalled it 2 times on hills. You need to give it more gas. It feels like you are riding the clutch but you arent.

Yes it's legit, and i can't stand it. No matter what anyone says, i can't get comfortable with the feeling of having to "overpower" the brake hold. I usually just wait for it to disengage and then take off normally---gee, how did the world drive up and down hills with manual transmissions for the past 50 years without constantly rolling back into other people?? lol

For those who don't like it, Hill Start Assist can be turned off.

How did people ever stop without ABS? How did people ever steer without stability control? How did people ever get moving without traction control? How did people ever not have flat tires without TPMS? I'm not sure how exaclty we got to the point that the car makers decided we're incapable of, you know, actually operating an automobile. But apparently now we can't be trusted to exhibit ANY kind of driving skill and must be protected from ourselves. It's sad.

I look at it this way: If you are driving like you are supposed to, none of those things listed above will ever kick in.

All that stuff is for the vast majority who NEED it, because of the way they drive.

Just another indication that Chrysler was, and still is, targeting the "feminine" market. Now, let's not have all the dedicated female 4 wheelers jump all over me (or maybe that would be kinda fun!). I'm not trying to mock you; you're not the target market. Just look at the TV adds. My $.02. BK

The hill assist turns off in my automatic as soon as I touch the gas pedal... is it not the same in a standard???

You can start in the index, and look up Hill Start Assist.

But anyway, here is the procedure:

HSA Off
If you wish to turn off the HSA system, follow this
procedure:
1. Start with the engine off and vehicle in PARK (automatic
transmission) or NEUTRAL with clutch out
(manual transmission) with wheels straight. Apply parking
brake on manual transmission vehicle.
2. Start the engine.
3. With the engine running, the brake applied, and the
clutch out, rotate the steering wheel 180° counterclockwise
from center.
4. Press the ESP OFF switch four times within twenty
seconds.
5. Rotate the steering wheel 360° clockwise (180° clockwise
from center).
6. Cycle ignition switch OFF then ON.
7. If the sequence was completed properly, the “ESP/
TCS Indicator Light” will blink several times to confirm
HSA is off.
Steps 1-7 must be completed within 90 seconds to turn off
HSA. Repeat steps 1-7 to re-enable HSA functionality.
