Horrible Shaking/wobble...help!
 

Ok the first time it happened I thought it was a fluke. I was driving after it had rained and there where some decent water spots on the road...and of course I was aiming for them. I wasn't going fast on this road as its known for deer crossing. I hit a water patch with the right side tires and came out of it with the Jeep shaking violently. The whole body, steering wheel/column everything... and it wouldn't stop until I applied the brakes and slowed down to a near stop.

I have noticed a different "feeling" when going over rough road or bumps but the Jeep still tracks straight. This morning going down the same road in a different area I ran into this shake again. I was going around 50mph maybe even slower and went over a rough patch of road...not a pothole or anything major but the jeep did this full on shake that made me pretty nervous. It wouldn't stop until I was able to bring the jeep to almost a full stop.

I am going to call the dealer today but don't want to sound like tool, any suggestions on things I should have them look at? I don't want them to come back and give me the "normal condition" BS that I get when asking them about hood flutter...which is also pretty terrible even when driving at normal local road speeds.


Oh just in case putting this in the Stock Tech area isn't correct, I have zero modification done to my Jeep. Stock X S Package.

I assume you have checked the torque on the trac bar? as well as all other suspension components? Any fluids from the steering stabilizer?

greenamphibious: I have not checked anything. To be honest I am not very knowledgeable about suspension and such. From past reading I had started to assume something with the trackbar but not about to suggest it to the dealer until I had some opinions from here. I'd rather have them check it out and torque it or whatever needs to be done.


Sieran: That video does look very similar to what I am experiencing.

I will call the dealer and explain what is happening and maybe suggest the track bar.

yep I would make sure both sides of the trac bar are at 125lbs. The dealer is going to be quick to slap a new steering stabilizer on it, that is why I asked if you saw any leaking going on. :thumbsup:

You got your first death wobble experience it seems like. The dealer has no fix for it. Search the forums using the keywords "death wobble" you will find hundreds of posts on the subject. Some have found cures some have not. Basically just make sure everything is torqued down right and your tires are aligned etc.

If you want to play it safe learn the conditions that cause your death wobble, and try to take those areas at a slower speed. You will avoid it all together.

BTW the dealer will say we need to replace your Steering Stabilizer or some crap like that. Don't. Your SS has no effect on death wobble, what it does affect is something totally different called bumpsteer.

I had a stock X B package when this first happened to me. I know your pain.

Thanks for all the comments. I'll do some looking, if I can fix the issue myself all the better. This has me kinda worried as I have the green light from the wife to get a lift (just looking a small budget boost) but with this going on stock I'm rethinking that idea. It didn't do this for the first year, so it kinda makes sense that something could have just worked lose.
