Default Hot engine smell?

I know these engines put off some heat, but I was wondering if anyone else can occasionally smell the engine while driving around with the windows down. I don't think it's an exhaust manifold smell, but wanted to check here first.

I could smell my muffler for a week when I painted it, I couldn't smell it while driving only when stoped at a light. Mud on the pipes is another wierd smell that causes a bit of a panic till' you figure out what it is.

Never noticed it. I do notice that on still days that the outside air temp is hotter when going under an overpass on I-95 down here.

Heh, I read the title of your post and it reminded me of back when people were using their engines to cook dinner while driving on roadtrips.

Yeah, I have smelt it too. My jeep has 5k on it, I smelt it within the first few k but now it is gone. I figure it was a combination excess paint burning off and breaking in the engine and its components

I'm not sure what it is. I'm at 15k miles, so you'd think it's well broken in. Maybe I'll cross my fingers and hope it goes away. Thanks for the comments.

Not necessarily while driving, but definitely when I park it in the garage (11k miles).
These do run hot - I used a Fram tough guard filter - motor got so hot the black grip stuff actually blistered up and came off. Never overheated, always in the normal operating temp area, fluids filled, etc....

Not sure if you were joking or not, but I cleaned the heck out of my Jeep the first time I went charging back and forth through a bunch of mud...

Two days later, I learned about cleaning the engine and underneath the Jeep when I open/closed the back gate and bunch of dried mud dropped off the bottom of the Jeep all over my garage floor.

Don't remember any odd smell over those couple days though.

Whenever I use the washer fluid there is an odd smell for about 5- 10 seconds. Thats inside the jeep with the windows up or down. Must be coming in through the vents I figure.
