The jeep does not actually analyze the oil itself. But it does run an algorithm that takes into account many of the engine and driving parameters that effect oil life.

If you have lots of cold starts, drive short trips, spend a lot of time in stop/go traffic, eat a lot of road dust, or do not spend sufficient time at operating temperature, then you are running "severe" conditions.

4000km (2500 miles) seems to be a common number for many folks. I change at 5,000 - 5,500 miles (or 6 months but that never happens!) and only got the chime once. Mobil 1 oil and filter.

if the synthetic is emptying your wallet to quickly, just use a good brand of dino. But personally, I would make the change when alerted.

The short trips and stop and go traffic definitley apply to me but nothing else, now that you mention it I guess I can see why those 2 things alone would cause the change oil notification to come up. Thanks!

P.S. FWIW I always have a spare Napa Gold filter and 6 litres of Mobil 1 5w20 synthetic at the house, good synthetic oil definitley isnt cheap and might seem like overkill to some but knowing thats what I have in my engine gives me a little peace of mind.

Nope, it was added I think for 08s or 09s. I have never seen an 07 with it.

My Jeep is an 07, I have seen it come on once before about a year ago. Oddly it was just after having an oil change performed. I was able to reset it with the 08+ procedure and it has never come back.

Software update perhaps?

Are you sure? I changed my oil at the first of October with just under 26 000 kilometres on it reset indicator when I was done, now have just over 30 000 and it came on last night. The oil appears to be fine, which it should be considering its Mobil 1 synthetic and its only been in there not quite 4 months. I think these things are kinda screwy if you ask me because this isnt the first time the indicator has come on way too early. According to the manual we can go up to 10 000 km's er 6 months between oil changes, (not a freakin' chance in hell I would try to pull that off).

It's like a countdown clock. After you change your oil you need to follow the above mentioned steps to reset the clock.

up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, B, A, start..................wait that's for Contra.

The previously posted method is correct. Do people really need a light to tell them when to change the oil!?!?!?!?!? pain in the butt

I tried the pedal method and my light did not go off...I have tried it numerous times. Any other methods?

same problem

I tried resetting the indicator - I've followed the manual's instructions multiple times and still the message comes on when I start the jeep. Any tips? Does the jeep have to be off for a certain period of time, quick pumps of the pedal or slow, etc? I seriously have tried this at least 6 different times with no luck, Im banging my head against the steering wheel at this point.

you are probably hitting the skinny pedal too quickly.

Hey it could be worse, wait until you try doing the steering wheel dance to permanently disable ESP :what?:

You prob already figured it out but search on here to check your manual...both tell you how to do it.
