If the gas tank is almost empty, don't park your Jeep on a hill for a few hours, because you will have a very bad surprise ...

The're a few threads about this in this forum

The 09 Manual says "When the fuel level reaches approx 2.8Gal (10.6l) this light will turn on and a single chime will sound."

I put about 19 gallons after the light comes, on.

Auto makers on average (car, truck) set the light to 20 miles left of fuel to get you to the nearest gas station.

I would suspect Jeep (being an all terrain vehicle, where Jeep knows your offroad on a trail often) has doubled the miles for the light. 40 miles, I tried it on road so I would know for Offroad times.

Its kinda annoying being so early but it makes total sense for an Offroad vehicle.

I just did this this AM. fuel light came on about 15 or so miles ago, watched the DTE run down to 30 miles left, then read lo Fuel. About 2 miles later filled the tank and put in 15.2 gal. So, I had about 3 gal left. I'll probably continue running it down to about that level if I'm in-town.

I don't really buy the cooked fuel pump theory, unless someone can explain I'm wrong. Is the fuel pump immersed in the gaoline in the tank? That doesn't sound like such a good idea. If it's just cooled by the fuel flowing through it (most pumps are cooled by the liquied they are pumping), then as long as you don't run out completely you're good. If you do run out, just turn off the ignition and it stops, and doensn't burn up.
