Default Another 08 Leak

Just got my JK 10 days ago. Took the hard top off over the weekend to remove and store the soft top. Put the hard top back on exactly like it said step by step in the manual. The fit was perfect.

Yesterday it rained and when I got in the Jeep there was water right in the middle of the dash above my MyGig system (at least they were smart enough to design the dash with a slight tilt backward away from the front of the MyGig and with a slight lip overhanging the display screen. The leak was coming from the point where the two front panels meet right at the windshield.

Today it rained again (much lighter) and there was no leak.

When I took delivery of my Sahara and first opened the door with my sales guy, there was water on the shift boot and a drip hanging from the driver side visor.

They replaced the seal (long story) and since then it doesn't leak at all. I drove through a car wash on Sunday..... no leaks.

There is a service bulletin on this and the seal should be replaced at no charge.

Good luck.

over cranking the screws that hold the top on will cause a very small gap (and leak) and/or damage the panel. The dealer is required to fix the seals while under warranty so get it done if the issue continues.

No leaks in my hard top knock on wood. I just got the Jeep this weekend, and have been in rain most of the week. Also had no leak in a touch free carwash. How much cranking of the screws qualifies as overcranking?

I've been holding my breath for a while, but the true test came when I was on vacation for the last few weeks. I went down to Florida for 2.5 weeks. It rained a good portion of the time I was there, and I took the top off and on several times. I have yet to have any leaks, so I figure mine must be good...at least for now!

Default Sent "Instructions for Installing Freedom Top Panels"

I was sent a picture pamphlet of how to install my Freedom Top. Mine leaked once a long time ago but since has not. I will reproduce below...

Step 1. IMPORTANT: Install the right side Freedom Top Panel first!!! Place the Freedom Top Panel on the vehicle and ensure the panels locating pin is properly positioned on the side bar.

Step 2. With the Freedom Top Panel laying flat and in position, hook and close the Header Latch to the top of the windshield.

Step 3. Turn the L-Shaped Lever located above the right side shoulder belt anchorage until it is securely latched/ closed.

IMPORTANT!! Next, place the left side Freedom Top panel on the vehicle and repeat step 1 and 2 before proceeding.

Step 4 Turn the L Shaped lever located above the left side shoulder belt anchorage untill it is securley latched/closed.

Step 5. Insert the Rear Fastener (located on overhead speaker bar) and turn clockwise until both are securely tightened (hand tighten only).

Step 6. Turn both L Shaped levers on right edge of the left side Freedom Top Panel until they are securely latched/closed

When installing the Freedom Top Panels without the rear hard top, rotate the spacer block 90 Degrees.

Hope this helps. I can scan this if you want.
