08 4x2 JK Sahara Unlimited... added the hitch. So it is all stock (without a hitch). Whatever axle ratio that makes it. (ie no tow package when I got it)
Pulls an 18 ft Center console from a lake without a problem. Have not tried it on a ramp to get to the ocean... they tend to be more steep down here.
Judging by how easy it was at the lake, I would not even think twice about it on an ocean ramp.

Generally, a 4x2 can tow more than a 4x4. Though the jeep website says both tow the same weight, I would expect the 4x2 to be able to tow more. I know when it comes to trucks a 4x2 can tow more.

Alot of people buy jeeps and never take it off road. It saves you a little $ when you buy it but you will loose your a$$ when you sell. I just did a trail the other day that my friend had difficulty in with his H2, I never had to go into 4wd, so I guess they can still be fun and they still look bad a$$.

Yeah... well.... I understand your point, but it's still strange to me to know that they make 2X4 Jeeps... I remember in the seventies, when my mom had a Cherokee Chief... Jeep was a synonym of 4X4... people would call anything that was 4X4 a Jeep...
I saw a 2X4 Jeep about tree months ago on eBay... lifted with 35s.. the guy had to repeat 100 times 2X4, THIS JEEP is 2X4.... !!!!! Because it doesn't make sense I guess... kind of like an airplane without wings... LOL
Do they still offer 2X4 in 2010 ???
Seriously... I can understand someone who would buy a 2X4 Jeep to save money, and because he likes the looks... But as far as Chrysler goes, marketing wise... I don't get it... Do they still put the "Trail Rated" badge on it ???

Why not look at the sticker on the door jam?
It will tell you exactly what load YOUR Jeep is capable of towing.
Subtract your Gross vehicle load rating from the Combined Gross rating. That tells you how much weight you can safely and legally tow.

And you guys are forgetting the 'oversized' tires on his auto with stock gears. The tow limit goes down, regardless of what any sticker or manual says.
Just my opinion, of course, but auto's are undergeared from the factory. Add taller tires, and this engine simply doesn't have the grunt for pulling heavy loads uphill. Then add the loss of traction from wet tires and a slick ramp, and you're asking people to help push...
