Default HVAC controls issue

Hi, I have a 2013 JK Sport with the manual heater controls.

It seems like I have to put the vent selector switch on DEFROST before any of the other settings work - otherwise, I hear things like flaps and actuators moving around behind the dash, but the air wont come out of the vents quite right. It's quite annoying, but the current workaround is simply to turn the selector knob all the way to the right to defrost first, let the flaps do their thing, and pick any of the other settings and they work just fine.

Could it simply be an issue with the control module with the knobs?

If so, i'm thinking maybe i can use this as an opportunity to swap it with an automatic type, assuming a simple swap works like that.

But I also realize this could be a more serious issues with the actuators controlling the blending flaps...

My 2013 has the same issue. I heard it's an issue with the control panel interface and requires a new control panel. I also heard the Auto control panel is a plug n play swap, but with the issues those have, no thanks.

My 2013 is having the same issues. If someone has a fix to it I would love to know it. Sometimes it works like it is suppose to and other times it just pisses me off.

My 13 JKU is having a similar issue. Vent control switch sounds like it changes the pitch of the sound of air, but air only comes out of the defrost vent.

Web searches point toward a vacuum leak- but most of the info is for earlier Jeeps.

Does anyone know more about this AC vacuum system and where possible leaks might be found? Any tricks to finding leaks short of a high dollar smoke tester?

Thanks!

Is the 13 Jk vent control vacuum activated or all electric?

Nobody?....

i guess i will replace the switch control panel. From what I can tell it electrically controls a motor that moves the diverted.

so it's either the diverted motor or the switch????

Hey guys. Any chance your defrost light is blinking? This points to a lack of calibration in the door actuator that is caused by loss of memory in the HVAC control module.

If this is not the case, then it might be the actual actuator having a hard time finding each position. I've had the blinking defrost light before, but I just learned to live with it lol. Although your problem sounds a bit different.

Thanks for the reply

Is there an HVAC light on the dash, or do you mean the light on the dial itself?

what is the fix for a mis-calibrated actuator?

Mine starting with just the knob not working unless switched to defrost first. After a year my knob works fine now but the light blinks and the air is delayed on startup about 30-45 seconds
