HVAC Recirculation question
Was doing some research on the cabin filter, a found this short vid:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lzSiWLu2q4o The mechanism confused the heck out of me. So here's some questions. I hope some of you smarter folks can enlighten me...
Does all air get filtered, recirculating or fresh?
Where does the jeep suck air from to recirculate it?
What's the purpose of the thing opening (when recirculating) and closing (when not)?
Could I soak my cabin filter in some air freshener, allow to dry, and then stick it in there for optimum air freshness?

The filters work on inside and outside air.
It draws air from behind the glovebox.
It takes two of the following:
Purolator C16177
Wix 34302
Mopar 55111302AA
If your Jeep had Automatic air, it comes with a set. If not, you have to add them.
Pinch the back of the glove box in and it will come out. There are two doors behind it that let you access the filter rack. The air flows down through them so set them in with the flow arrow down.
If you soak the filters, I think they would come apart. There are some other brands that are carbon impregnated.
This link explains it better.

The operation and install has already been covered, but no, I would not soak the filter in anything smell-freshy as it will probably destroy/warp the filter and the smell might change or trap moisture.
The goal is to keep particulates out of the air blowin into the cabin, not make it smell good or kill any bacteria, etc. Your Jeep's HVAC system is not to be used as a precaution or defense against chemical weapons! lol
