Voids what? Your warranty? This is absolutely not true and if someone told you this, they're either lying to you or woefully misinformed. You can do the oil changes yourself in your driveway without voiding your warranties (although I recommend keeping your receipts if you don't have the dealership doing them).

Sorry I worded that wrong. It voids my free 2 year maintenance.

they also want your vehicle to eventually break and for you to have to buy a new one. I'd personally spend the couple bucks and overdo it. I sold my last car, an Infiniti FX35, with 227k on the odo and no issues. Changed the oil religiously every 3k and am doing the same with the Jeep.

that's ridiculous. what if you're out of town on a 2k mile road trip and need an oil change? These dealerships are all such a joke.

Just get a mopar oil filter from a dealer and change it yourself. They'll never know. Then take it in around 8000 and go from there.

this ^^^^ plus I would say always get mopar filters from the dealer so it's in their computer that you bought it in case there is ever have a warranty issue.

Only problem with this is that the warranty has a finite life. If there was some additional wear, it likely wouldn't cause a major failure before the warranty period ends. I'm guessing the engineers made sure it would go 100k miles with a x% failure before that.

If your that worried about it just change the oil and not the filter. It used to be you change the filter every other oil change. Even if you pay to have it done tell them not to change the filter just drain and fill.

Your experience my be different, but in my experience, the dealers suck. When I went there to buy an oil filter for my 2012 he asked me which engine it had in it. They told me I had to change the oil every 3 months or it would void the warranty. They told me that using synthetic oil could void the warranty. They told me when I took it in for the slow clock TSB that all of my driveline fluids were filthy and needed replacement (I had just replaced all of these fluids myself two weeks prior).
