Idle issues when downshifting or coming to a stop but doesn't die
I have about 60K on my jeep. I drive 80mi to work and home every day. My jeep is now acting as though it will stall but doesn't just idles very shabby. At first I thought it was the clutch but that was ruled out. I have read the idle control could play a role except mine is a module and its not clear if you have to replace the whole part, which is usually around $200 or just a component, not sure how to do that tho. I clean it however as mentioned by others but no improvement. I am at a loss overall and my gas mileage has been cut in half.

Are you getting any codes?

is it lacking power at all or just rough idle?

When was the last time you check the spark plugs? Might need to change them. As for the gas mileage going down you may have a clogged air filter.
As cheesy as it sounds have you checked your tire pressure? I know when my tires are low my mileage suffers. Lastly have you been wheeling lately and been off camber for a long period? I had this issue about two months ago with my gas gage nor reading properly. It was due to being off camber the whole day. And when I say off camber I mean SWMBO is looking at the ground out her side window. Interested in knowing what the rough idle is and what the fix is. R/ Will |
If it idles rough, but runs fine otherwise, start by cleaning the throttle body and idle air control valve. If you can't clean the idle air control valve, just replace it. Maybe run some seafoam through the tank as well.

It just idles rough. Basically once it drops to about 600 it pudders then it levels out.

If it idles rough but once you touch the gas it clears up that is usualy the IAC but since you have electronic throttle body it is all controled by that. We had a guy with a similar issues a few months ago it turned out he had to replace the thottle body and it went away. I appreciate the help on this as well. |

It is a fuel system and combustion chamber cleaner. You can get it at any auto parts store.

I had the same problem a few months back, I removed the throttle body which was dirty ahel and cleaned and haven't had the problem since.
Give it a try , its fairly simple to do and might solve your problem. |
Still have the issue after doing some replacements
So I replaced the throttle body, plugs and wires. The issue is actually worse now. The 4x4 place that is local mentioned getting my computer reflashed...but I have a feeling its going to get expensive to do that. Any other things i can do to avoid that? After dropping 200$ on the throttle, I am pretty upset it didn't solve the issue.
