ignition switch sticking
has anyone else had their ignition swithc stick on them when they are turning over there JK ? mine has done it twice now tomarrow I'm going to talk to the dealership about it.
well like I said DEAL WITH IT....with my crapy ass dial up I'm not going to waste the time waiting on something else to load each time I want to post something.
anyway it's a auto but that dos'nt realy matter it's the actual switch that you put the key into is sticking so the starter keeps turning over and I have to turn the key back to where it's suposed to be.

mines auto rubi unlimited. now that u mention it, a few times now when its sat overnight in minus 20 weather, when i initially turn the key, it makes a weird noise after the engine turns over, and i think i naturally turn the key back...not sure if i HAVE to turn the key back, but hearing the noise MAKES ME turn the key back.
when its warmed up, stopped turned off then back on again, it doesnt make the noise...is this what youre hearing???

I get the same thing in cold temps. It's as if the starter is failing to dis-engage right away. I'm glad mine isn't the only one doing it then. I haven't heard of a fix yet for it, other than everyone moving to Arizona for the warm weather

Since here is Arizona we don't have cold temperatures...
I thought I would do a little experiment.
This experiment is only in relation to JKs with automatic transmissions.
1) If you turn the key to start and immediately release the key, the engine cranks until it starts and then the starter disengages.
2) If you turn the key and hold it in the start position, the engine cranks until it starts and then the starter disengages. You can continue to hold the key in the start position as long as you want. No extra noises or cranking or whatever.
3) While the engine is running if you turn the key to the start position, nothing happens. No sounds, no starter grinding, nothing. It knows the engine is running and will not try to engage the starter.
So it seems to me that if it sounds like the starter is not disengaging and is being overrun when it is very cold, maybe there is a problem with the starter itself and not the ignition key?
Or just move to someplace warmer.

I hear a noise when starting in cold temps as well. When I start the Jeep, I just turn the key until it starts cranking, and then release it (while it's still cranking - it stops when the engine is started, on it's own). Sometimes as the last 'crank' of the starter is completing, it sounds like it grinds... for a second or two. I can't really tell, as the noise of the engine drowns it out for the most part. Not sure if this is the same issue...

thats it!....is this a trip to the dealer for? or is this normal...?
