Default Infant car seat survey (2 door JK )

My wife and I are expecting our first child in July and I need to get an infant seat for my '11 2 door. I was hoping some of you might be able to tell me which infant seats will fit in the back seat.

Thanks,

My son is now 10 months old. When he was born I owned a 2009 2-door JK. I now own a 2014 JK Unlimited.

I don't think you will have any problems with the actual car seat / base combination in the back seat. I didn't with the Chicco Keyfit 30 unit. The LATCH system worked fine. My issue was getting the car seat in and out! The front seats just don't slide far enough nor tilt enough to easily get the seat in and out. I had to lift the car seat as high as it would go and then twist it and slant it at odd angles until it fit in. Once in I was able to snap it into the base. After almost two months of that I traded the 2-door for the 4-door I have now.

For the past month my wife and I have not been carrying him in the car seat any longer. We leave the car seat in the car, her car mostly, and lift him in and out of it. If I could have done that from the beginning I may not have moved out of the 2-door.

Overall I think all of the car seats on the market will fit in the back seat it is just getting it in and out that is the pain.

Here in Colorado it is a law that a place that sells baby car seats has to have demonstrator models that they will let you take out to your car to try out. Check if your local Babies R Us, Buy Buy Baby, etc., will let you do that. Then you will know for sure what fits and which may clear the seat easier. [EDIT: After posting I see your location is Littleton. I highly recommend the Buy Buy Baby store in Westminster for car seat research and overall baby goods shopping. I prefer if over Babies R Us. But Amazon seems to be the best deal on diapers when you use their Subscribe and Save option as well as joining their "Amazon Mom" program (extra discounts)]

Good luck and congratulations. It is impossible to put in words how amazing it is to have a child. I hope as time moves on you experience the same joy that I have.

Hi! I have the Keyfit 30. Chicco brand. The base goes in very easily. I have a 2010 2 door JK. The car seat however is just as the previous poster said. You have to lift it very high and try various angles to get it to fit in the back. Don't even try the drivers side. The seat will not go forward enough with the steering wheel. You have to put the seat base behind the passenger seat and then work to get the seat in. It is quick. Only takes a few seconds but if the baby is heavy it's a bit of work. You really have to wiggle it in!! Haha!!

Not sure on a 2 door. I have baby #3 on the way. My other 2 girls are both in Britax boosters. Before I bought the 4 door I borrowed a buddy's jeep and tried all three seats in there at once. They all fit. We will see how hard/easy it is to use once #3 arrives. If it is too much of a pain, I will get narrower car seats for the two oldest.

Diono makes narrow "convertible" car seats. Scottz, the convertibles are the next step after the infant seat. You most likely won't have to think about them until your baby is close to a year old.

I have a 2007 2dr and it was a challenge to figure out how best to get the car seat in the back. We've got the Britax base and infant seat.
My method is as follows:
- Install base in the rear passenger side
- Slide passenger seat forward
- Recline drivers seat all the way
- Slide infant seat in from the drivers side to the rear passenger side and on to the base

This method was born of necessity because I really couldn't get the seat in from the passenger side. Just wanted to share incase anybody else is running into this problem. I'd hate to see somebody get rid of their 2dr because of a car seat.

I had the same issue with my 2dr. It was manageable but sucked. The solution was I traded in my 2dr for a 4dr.

I have a Britax and do the following:
-put the car seat base in the middle of the back seat
-set car seat on passenger seat
-get into driver seat and lift baby seat over console and latch onto center of back. Removal is the same

I think it's pretty easy, and I have a full cage with harness bar, etc...

I have the Graco Snug ride elite and I installed the base in the middle as well in my JKU. It's the only way it fits without moving the front seats way up, and that's not an option since I'm a bigger guy. To put it in I usually do the two step process of plopping him up on one side, then spinning and snapping it into the base. All good.
