Interior Problems :(
yup soft plastic for sure. The grab bar has many scratches over it. I guess my wife is stabbing it with her fingernails. I was contemplating some sort of cover when it occurs to me that it would likely become a projectile if the airbag ever went off
I also have the soft plastic jetta. Guess I'm a sucker for cheap plastic:rolleyes:

Thank God (I guess) that I'm not imagining this issue. I couldn't believe how easy the interior scratches. I am hoping some sort of cleaner that covers would fix this. I'm really dissapointed that this is the case so early on in ownership - what is this thing going to look like in 5 years?

Ditto to all. My wife got into the passenger side yesterday and noticed the passenger grab handle was scratched up. I guess my 13 y/o daughter did it somehow, though it couldn't have been much. I'm a little picky about the new Jeep right now.
I didn't figure that my first scratch would be on the INSIDE!

Lowering costs and making more money off you. In fact they have a program at DCTC called "MCM" or Material Cost Management. If you as a supplier can find a cheaper way to make the "same" thing (w/o compromise in quality of course, eheehehehehe), then you get credit toward the "goal" that DCX has set up for you w/o your company's input. So if I am a $40 million/year in revenue supplier with DCX and they say you MUST reach your "goal" of $5 million in MCM revenue reduction or else... well then... guess what happens?
This forces you as a supplier to come up with ideas to make your product cheaper. One way or another. You have to do it or else.
You might for example go from a scratch-resistant ABS plastic to a cheaper, looks the same-but-more-scratchable polypropylene. Otherwise you lose DCX as a customer. DCX has been doing this over the last 3-4 years and they of course claim to never compromise quality but you can see how the cheapness is creeping into every car they make.
I love the JK but still all these people who talk about thinner sheet metal, cheap plastic, etc... it's all a result of the MCM program.

*sigh*
I guess i am just "old school". Ya know? Quality, craftsmanship, & pride in a job well done are also major parts of what you make?
It is truly sad that this is what things come down to --> $
Oh, i understand that they have costs, and the more they spend, the more my Jeep costs me in the end, I am just disgusted is all.
It is plastic for god's sake. RIGHT were it is going to get abused.
It is as stupid as another member thought about not installing door sill guards from the factory.
