I purchased a chipped key blank on ebay and had the dealership cut the key for free. You can program the new key if you still have two working keys. Cost was $15 bucks!

If you had 2 keys, why did you go to the dealership of all places to cut it? Why not a hardware store?

It's the factory Jeep key with the chip in it, but blank straight metal... no grooves chiseled yet.

Search for "jeep key"... you'll find one.

I just saw a write up on this the other day, it's out there and a very clear one on what you need to do. I didn't do it because I only have one so I have to go to the dealer. But it basically boils down to you turning the key to acc, switching to your other one and turning to acc then putting in the new one. Look it up to get all the timing down but don't wing it, because if you mess up too many times your jeep will lock itself so it can't be started.

The instructions are in the owner's manual.

the ~$15 don't have the buttons for power lock, etc. but they are good to have anyway in case you lose one of the original two you can still program a replacement that does have the alarm buttons etc. and not be at the mercy of the dealer.
