jeep maintenance
Well this seems relevant, not to hijack but heres how my Saturday maintence went...
-Changed the oil, pretty basic
-Rotated the wheels this past week, in the process broke a wheel stud of the RT rear
-Saturday went to replace said stud, found out I had the wrong one (from the dealer) and my brakes were toast....
-Went to go get brakes for the rear and a correct stud. 3 hours of driving, 4 auto parts stores, another dealer and 4 wheel parts proved that this stud is almost impossible to get
-Figured oh well, I'll order a new stud this upcoming week, 1 missing will be ok
-Got back home to do my brakes....broke 2 MORE studs off the LT rear.
Rant over...I guess this is how it works sometimes. REALLY pisses me off b/c I started this project friday night in anticipation of meeting some guys at uwharrie on Sat am..Oh well.

No, I don’t work for a dealer.

And part 2- check your oil every time you fill up- how long does it take you to fill up? I know it doesn't take me nearly long enough for the oil to cool and stabilize to the proper level. If you add too much oil then there is potential for problems just like it bein low.
uh he's referring to 4HI - which you can run on the road:

Yes, you can run in 4HI on the road and you will soon be replacing the transfer case and/or front end components. If you want to run all four on highways, you have the wrong vehicle. You want something with All Wheel Drive.
well, guess owning jeeps for last 30+ years doesn't qualify me (really, I don't claim to be an expert)...
long term 4HI on dry road? no, but for a few miles just to make sure all is working, never had an issue.
If I haven't been on a good dirt road or on the trail for awhile, I'll do it just to make sure all is well - and yes, I do it at speed (not over 45 - even thought the owners manual states 50). I also don't drive like a DA and run it at freeway speeds.
I'll take advantage of good moderate to heavy rain days when I'm on the freeway. Ideally in 4Hi you want some slippage but you won't hurt it for a few miles at reasonable speed.
4LO never on dry, but I will use it occasionally to crawl up a boulder that's on a contruction site near by.
In the end, use common sense and figure out how to keep all of your Jeep's systems maintained and tested.
Nothing sucks worse than planning a trip only to get there and stuff doesn't work.
