Default Jeep Starting Issue

My g/f has a 2007 Wrangler JK 4 door and in the past few months its gotten where it deosnt want to start right off. If you hit the key it will crank over several times before it finally decides it wants to start. The way the ignition is on it it will just keep cranking even if you dont have the key turned. I thought maybe a set of plugs would help it since it has 80,000 miles on it but no luck. It only does it MAYBE once a week sometimes not even that often but it seems like its starting to do it more so now. Any advice or ideas where to go next with it?

Thanks

Andy

You might check the plug wires. On my wife's Park Avenue Buick - they were famous for wire failures at 75K - 90K miles. I know this is not a buick....but a place to go next.

Possibly a fuel pump on its way out?

I have the same issue. Every once in awhile, it's like the ignition get's "stuck" while starting and I have to physically reach up and rotate the key to off. When I try to start it again, it works fine but when the problem is happening, it's like someone is keeping their hand on the key with it pushed all the way to the crank position.

Yes!yes!yes! I'm having this issue. People think I'm crazy. Keep me posted on a fix. I'm thinking it's the fuel pump.hoping it's something easier to change.

Sounds like you found the problem; the ignition switch is worn(almost out). If you have to manually turn key back from start position, the switch return spring might be it. BTW you would have to replace the switch as an assembly. Next phase=switch can sometimes cut out\ fail to start.

I wonder if they are unknowingly describing the tip-start feature of the automatic JKs. It will continue to crank until it starts, or for 10 seconds max after the key is released.

Yeah, wasn't sure what year the tip start feature was available. So I re-read the part where he said they physically had to turn key back from crank position. But like you say; it sounds like two diff. issues they are talking about. (In O Post he states his GF's 2007)

I think one guy said he had to turn the key to off to get it to stop cranking. I'll bet it was during the 10 second period. 10 seconds is a long time if you don't know it will stop on its own.

Sounds like a bad SKREEM ( ignition module ) or possible TIPM issue.
