Jeep tried to kill me
ok.. got your attention, but theres a lot of caveats on the post. Last night i was asleep on the couch when the jeep started in the attached closed garage by itself. I happened to wake up and hear it running, went out and tried to shut it off (key was not in ignition), Tried to put in gear or hit the brake.. nothing.. Went and got the key, turned it on and off and still motor kept running.. Finally, plugged in the power to the alarm/remote start then hit the door lock/unlock button on the remote and the motor finally stopped running. At this point I disconnected the battery again.
The caveats:
1. Im in the middle of a bunch of rewiring adding lights to the interior, new wiring for the CB and new wiring for my lights
2. None of the accessories were actually hooked up. Fuses were all pulled or not connected to battery
3. I had drained the battery by apparently leaving a dome light on. I was in the middle of charging it with a trickle charger when this all happened
4. I do have an after market Viper alarm with remote start. The only interfaces between that and the stock jeep wiring is the use of a dball/chall box and a single wire going to the ignition for ignition sense.(plus direct power from battery which was disconnected as i mentioned)
5. Doors were not on vehicle.
It is entirely possible that I have a short somewhere (might also explain why the battery drained). But the battery death happened while I was on a 2 week business trip so can't say with certainty if this is dome light or a short.
Honestly, there are so many caveats on my situation that I don't expect anyone will have any ideas on what might have gone wrong, but if on the odd chance that someone has experienced random starts before, id love to hear about what the root cause was.

Jeeps have been known to be temperamental like a woman with pms.
Have you let her out to take a good mud bath ?
A Good rock climb helps sometimes ?
They like to go to a topless beach sometimes ?
She might be just getting frustrated and acting out ?
In all likely hood the electronics in the remote starter hit what called nomans land in the logic control .
When charging the dead battery, as the voltage increased it thought it got the start command. but then lock up. Like a computers blue screen of death.
Next time disconect the battery terminals and charge the battery on its own.

I'm going with your JK is actually an autobot. Hound is the name to be more exact.

Or what I would go with is that something happened due to the low-battery condition on your JK and aftermarket remote start.
Things are known to act strange as the battery gets low and having an aftermarket part connected to the ignition system makes it very suspect. I can guarantee you that the aftermarket remote start has never been tested with a JK for a low-battery situation. That's one of the reasons why after market parts can cost less. There's less required testing where battery voltage testing is part of OEM specification tests for all electronics.
