Default Jeep wont start

Hey guys just wondering if anyone has had this issue. I was turning my jeep around in my driveway and when i shifted from reverse to drive my AT didnt leave reverse even after shifting into park it still went backwards as i pressed the gas. I shut it off and now it wont start and the gear shifte wont moveany help would be great cant call dealer till monday. its a 2007 Sahara with the automatic, 10500 miles i use it as a daily driver and a weekend trail rig but not serious wheelin.

Are you on a hill? If so it might be binding thus not allowing you to move the shifter. You can look this up in the owners manual. There is a small cover by the od button you can remove and release the shifter. I have not had to do this but I remember reading about it in the manual. Hope you figure it out.

Thanks Redrock this helped me move the shifter but still no start, when I put the key in the ignition and turn it to start it still shows my jeep is stuck in R no matter what position the shifter is in I think the linkage cable broke. Ill find out more in 1 day. Thanks for all your help guys Love MY JK

Well the dealer called and said I need a new shifter assembly and they are waiting to see about availability, This is my only car so Im screwed for awhile. Hopefully its only out of commission for one more day. I already miss my JEEP

sorry to hear that at least you know what it is now. thats weird did they say what could have caused that ?

Not yet Im waiting to hear their explanation. I want to know how it could break at 2 MPH in my driveway and not on a trail or at least at highway speed
