I like my metal ones they don't get holes in them shifting around on trails and down the hiway. I've had plastic ones that have rubbed holes in them just from the road vibration. These metal ones I have are rub resistant and soft enough to take a hit without puncturing. I've run them 50000 miles with no problems. They've been banged and bumped and vibrated all over the placed so I'll just stick with them.

Any recommendations on brands? I think I am interested in getting the side mount. Looks minimally invasive in terms of installing

I never looked for any side mounts but I would think Quadratec.com would have a variety of good ones. I bought most of my accessories from them and they always had a great selection. They're customer service is top notch and they sell some top quality stuff, so thats where I'd start.

Wavian is generally regarded as making the best quality metal jerry cans. A google search will turn up lots of sources: https://www.google.com/search?q=wavi...utf-8&oe=utf-8

You could also try military surplus cans, they're high quality as well, although usually they'd be used and condition will vary. Coleman's Military Surplus sells both Wavians and surplus ones: https://colemans.com/?s=jerry+can&po...&submit=Search

The side mounts themselves are available from several sources, including Retrofit Offroad and Extreme Terrain. They are minimally invasive, only 3 bolts to install using factory holes and easy to remove in a minute or two when you don't want them installed. A google seach on "morryde side mount" will turn up sources: https://www.google.com/search?q=morr...utf-8&oe=utf-8

Default heres where i got my cans

they were delivered well packaged and not any problems on them , dont leak or anything i bought 2 black 5 gal. cans they come with spout if you use it i dont normally dont worry about this company every thing went perfect on both orders https://www.jerrycan.com/shop/20-lit...ian-jerry-can/
as for the side mount i love this too. morryde side mount not a ten min job getting that bolt in under the hood though the clip thery provide is a pita to get on there but once on you wont be removing it trust me looks good empty even . but i always have the 5 gal can in . sorry not the greatest pics but you wont regret it in my opinion . I think its one of the best things i added to my jeep for things that are extremely useful. Ill give you another hint of what i bought , was a 6 inch big eye bolt . Painted it black and then a caribena combonation lock from e trailer and loop it through the can and then to the eye hook & gorilla tape it so no rattles and keeps water away from the number dials . Its hardened steel very stout ,no one can steel your investment and if they try ! They will need a big saw and that would take time and prob blow them up with spark lol BTW as seen in last pic it cant be hardly noticed . Yet worry free when you walk away . cuz the cans are 79 bucks plus your gas

Ive got the MORryde plates and the 3.5g Rotopax on each side. This gives me about a half tank of gas with both.

This mount is only there to siphon gas from the can to the tank, not to carry a Rotopax. It probably could if needed.

EVO makes a mount for around $70 that center mounts a Rotopax on your spare tire. Others make them as well, EVO is the one I'm familiar with.
