Default JK and Engine Hours?

Quick question. My father has been looking at buying a new Chevy Avalanche. I was trying to help him find one when I came across mileage and then also Engine Hours. Is this like a boats engine hours? If it is being included in trucks as far back as 2006 how come the JK does not have one? Can I calculate how many engine hours my JK has manually? Just curious and looking for information about what exactly they mean by engine hours. Thanks for the help.

Sounds like they installed a Hobbs meter to count engine hours, just like on a boat or aircraft (or were able to read engine hours from the vehicle computer).
Those don't have odometers, so they depend on hours running to keep track of engine life and maintenance schedules. I don't really see the point on a vehicle that counts mileage.

this is a neat feature as most pickup truck are used by company. You know the boss show up on a work site and leave the truck running idle for 1 or 2 hours when they sell the truck the mileages is low but the engine was running idle most of the time. The real engine condition is unknown at that point if you only have mileages.

You cannot calculate it manually.

I bet the engine run time is tracked in the computer, extractable with the StarScan.

If you want to track it yourself, get an hour meter and an oil pressure switch from a tractor supply store and install them in your JK.

if im not mistaken, our cluster gauge has hr meter. but it can be reset for time of travel not for engine hrs. diesels will usually have hr meter.

X2 with ronjenx. It's tracked in the computer, and read with a StarScan.

we used to have a 2002 Silverado 3500 dually.. gas 6 liter...

if you sat in it and held down the odometer button on the instrument cluster, an hour meter would pop up.. I thought it was pretty cool but we didnt use it EVER.

went by mileage for maintenance.

hey thanks everyone. That is what I thought it was but I could not figure out why they would add those in. It makes sense now.
