Default Is the JK really that uncomfortable?

Okay so I can't help it notice how every single review online just bashes the Jeep Wrangler for its ergonomics and comfort. I happen to own the 14 Sahara Unlimited with leather trim and a few upgrade features like 430N radio, power everything, connectivity package and premium sound package and I think the Jeep is amazingly comfortable. My wife and I went on a trip across Ontario in August with it and we loved it. Even the fuel consumption was pretty good on country roads, we averaged about 10.5L/100km which translates to about 22-23 mpg. We really enjoyed the large trunk space and found the front seats very comfortable and man was it ever nice to cruise with the top fully retracted and enjoy the convertible experience in a truck. I used to own a fully loaded honda civic and my wife drives a loaded Acura TSX and we both agree that we find the Jeep much more comfortable and enjoyable to drive in. So I'm curious, how come it gets such horrible reviews online as a daily driver? Am I really that delusional that I love the car so much I put a blind eye to things that other people notice? I thought so too but my wife loves the JK also. I've been using it as a daily driver for the past 4 months and I couldn't be happier. What are your thoughts on this? Interested in seeing what others think.

Right there with you.. I was even banned by edmonds.com because of my views on which you've touched upon.. furthermore.. I don't like the direction jeep is headed when they introd the renagayed..

One must realize that not all reviews are what they seem, found this out when my wife's niece asked us to write a review for her company.. which we never heard about of have even been to.. clearly she wanted us to write a favorable review for her company just to gain merit or brownie points with said company.

Besides.. I don't trust reviews.. yet I write them myself.. and in this case.. I'm way too critical and outspoken when a product is bad.. and I think the company would learn something from this and actually create better products in order for me to write a better review.. just makes sense.

So apparently the review you read.. wasn't or isn't from a very reliable source seeing how you, I and others over look this crap and buy what we want.. dare I say the Government attempting to sway how and what consumers buy?.. Maybe.

Default Comfort?

I'm with you on the comfort scale. I think that my stock JKU is quite comfortable as a road trip car, I went on a 3,000 mile trip this summer and not once did I feel uncomfortable, other than the too be expected just plain tired after driving 12 hours straight.

Every review I've ever read since the 1970's in magazines such as Consumer Reports always bash the CJ, Tj, JK etc for ride quality, weather protection etc. I don't pay attention to those sort of comments anymore. I found the same thing regarding my 2000 Exterra, EVERY review claimed it was underpowered, but not once in the 125,000 miles that I had it did I feel it needed more power.

I think that some of these reviewers just repeat what they've read about whatever vehicle they're writing about, instead of making the effort of forming their own opinions.

Hah.. were just starting to break in the seats.. yet one (the drivers side does have a slight padding issue) My wife doesn't like that I drive so close to the steering wheel.. but because of my bad back.. and if I sit in her relative location farther back I have to lift my left leg extremely father than I care to.. besides.. sitting closer.. allows me to get a better view forward and back.. I tend to drive forward and backwards.. just to keep and eye on things.. but yea 13 hours driving one day while on our trip was about all I could do.. and even though I was tired.. it was because of the 103 degree heat and not because of how the jeep drives.

I think the seats are fine, and comfortable. I just returned from a 2800 mile off-road/on-road exploration of Southern Utah, Western Colorado, and Northern Arizona and did not suffer any back pain, discomfort, etc. I know that I would have been a hurting unit if I had done the same trip in out LL Bean, leather/power/heated/ dozen-way adjustable seat equipped Outback. Things to remember about Jeep seats, the side bolsters are low for easy ingress/egress, as needed when off-roading and you're getting in and out all the time. The regular seat covers are hot, cover them with cotton canvas, machine washable seat covers, they are substantially cooler, and wear better than neoprene and don't tear up your clothes like Cordura will to sensitive fabrics (think about that $90 blouse your wife is wearing, not your 2 for $8.00 Hanes T-shirt).

As far as the guy whining about the Renegade; Jeep needs to sell a butt-load of high mileage vehicles so we can have Wranglers, get over it, no one is forcing you to buy one.

My daughter had a Jeep back in 89, I had to stop and pee every half hour.
My 12 Unlimited is at least as comfortable as any pickup I owned.

Though not as comfortable as my 2012 F150 Supercrew. I find my 2014 Rubicon Unlimited very comfy. I wouldn't hesitate to take it on a long trip. It blows my wife's 2013 Rav4 away. First time she drove the Rubicon she wanted one. Probably buy her a Sahara Unlimited when its time to replace the rav4.

Comparing my JKUR to my Land Rover? Uncomfortable. Seats, ride, noise, climate, etc. Comparing to my wife's Volvo Xc 90? Harder ride but, believe it or not, the jeep seats feel better. And, the Volvo is also quiet, maintains climate better, etc.

Objective really. All depends on preference.

I do think my jeep is far better than the Dodge Ram I owned. What a turd of a truck that was!

Well. I've had mine long enough to loose the "rose colored glasses"! My 2012 Sahara W/leather seats are BRICKS! They suck. They are fine for everyday driving to work and the lake and stuff. But, compared to my wife's Lexus....or any previous vehicle I have EVER owned, the ergonomics SUCKS. The longer the drive, the worse it is. If it had a power drivers seat, I would probably like it much more, but the for and aft adjustments leave me either too close or too far, and the recline feature is the same issue. I'm either leaned too far back or driving like a oriental old woman. The back seat? The most uncomfortable thing ever created. Glad I'm paying the note on it and don't have to ride in the back!
