Don't be bashful- get down on that thing-it WILL turn out. Sometimes you got to pull till you see black spots before your eyes. The drain plug has been tightened until the threads on the pan have started to distort- you have to reverse the distortion to get it out. It's a matter of LEVERAGE, you need a big set of vise-grips to move it. If you take it somewhere to get it removed, they will do what we've been suggesting.

hey mk- when you tighten the drain plug and a 4 inch chunk of the pan rips out with the plug it's probably too tight!

Maybe I'm missing something but not only are oil changes cheap, but first oil changes are free so.............. Why are you doing it yourself?

Take it to the dealership and let them change the plug and the oil. You probably don't have a safe/legal place to discard the oil anyway, let the pros do it.

After hearing all the horror stories on here about how they screw up in oil changes you still trust them to do it? Not just on here but I have had too many friends have bad experiences at oil change places.

I also don't want to take time of work to take it in. I usually do it on a saturday morning when I don't have anything else pressing to do. It takes less than a half an hour. The JK's high enough no jack needed. It can't get an easier. My wifes care is ony 6 inches off the ground, its hard but I stil do it anyway.

I take mine in for the recalls since it was programing the computer and I don't have a starscan tool. Other than that, they will not touch it EVER... I am already over 40k miles and out of warranty anyway so its all good.

As far as the oil I just poor it down those storm drains in the street. Just kidding I take it to Autozone. They will properly dispose of it for free.

took it to the jeep dealer today, they just charged me for an oil change and new bolt, and all they said to me was that oil drain plug was stripped bad. so all in all it cost me $40 for oil filter and a new bolt. and i got to spend the day with my gf driving me around places hehe. also they fixed my recall with some computer reprogram. from now on tho im gonna be doing my own oil changes
