!!! just lost reverse WTF!!!
It just occurred to me that I have had the trans lines replaced within the last year under recall. But i can't seem to find any record of it on the Jeep Owners site.
how much fluid could they have drained to replace the lines? and how much did they put back in? and would that have any impact on anything...probably not I guess.
just doesn't give me great confidence in the vehicle and I'm glad that I'm sitting on top of Murphy's Hogback, a 45 mile off road tow would outrageouslysly expensive.

I'm pretty sure that if the fluid was low it would have acted up right after the repair...maybe I'm wrong.
i went for the auto for a couple of reasons, i thought that wheeling on he rocks would be easer for me. But mostly because it was what was on the lot at the time and it was late in the year and the '09s were running out of stock and as you know the '09s ended the lifetime warrantee and I'm getting use out of that point.
wow ..that was poorly worded but you get the idea.

In the 42RLE, yes, the shift lever is connected to the transmission's manual valve, but the only manually selected gear ranges are P, N, R, 2nd; also called limp mode.
The rest is done electrically.
During limp mode, power is removed from the transmission control relay, and from the solenoid pack.
Under normal conditions, the manual valve still gets moved by the lever, and plays a role, but the computer takes it from there.

So the manual valve is in 2nd for all forward gears, and the lever position just sends data to the computer?

Well I dropped it off at the doctor this morning.
As some of you may know getting from Winter Park to Denver (dealer location) involves going up and over Berthoud Pass then Floyd Hill is a long climb also, so start at 8000 feet up to 11307 then down to Denver's west side at about 6000 ft .
It shifted normally through the whole trip so I am really hopping that only reverse is broken and if for some unknown reason they deny my warrantee claim it will be under a thousand bucks.
Of course if it is covered i hope that they rebuild the whole thing and get rid of the shudder that happens ocasionally when shifting between gears.
They can't start anything untill Monday but I'll keep posting as I get any info..................

So I'm driving around and I park and go into my shop...5 minutes later I come out and start the jeep and start to back up and it felt like I was on gravel, it slipped a bit. thought "that was wierd". Went to my next stop and passed the driveway...put it in reverse...almost nothing..nothing in 2hi...nothing in4hi...4low did work.....
I called GO Jeep and made an appointment to drop it off. The service guy asked if I had done the "required services" on it and I said " no it only has 81,000 miles on it" he replies that there is a filter in there and should be done about every 35,000.
WTF I've had more that a dozen cars in my life , all with WELL over 150,000 and have NEVER done a service on them and NEVER had a problem...
Every time that this thing has gone in it's because of crap parts quality, I can't wait to see what it is this time.
Best case $100 deductable...worst case $2500 for a new tranny.

I had a Jeep Cherokee that I bought in 1986 that had an automatic transmission so that the wife could drive it. Every 16 months, the whole transmission had to be overhauled despite being serviced according to the service manual.
I sold it and bought a Jeep Comanche with a manual transmission and had no problems at all.
After that, I had 2 other Jeeps, both with automatic transmission (the wife said she would drive them but never did), still with no problems.
Now when I bought this Call of Duty, I had to have a stick and I love driving that big 'ol Wrangler with a manual transmission.
Why Wranglers are even made with an automatic transmission is beyond me.
If you can't drive stick, you can't drive. Period.

Well Chrysler autos (now by Mercedes) have always sucked. My dad had a dodge 4x4 truck , he had 4 trannys replaced in a yr and a half! I love my 6 spd! The clutch is hard to get used to , but with some practice it gets easier
