Default K&N air filter

I have to change my air filter. I was thinking to buy the K&N air filter. Any comment?

I have one in my stock air box, which I only use when I wheel and haven't noticed any MPG or HP gains with it. The cost is offset by the fact all you have to do it wash and re-oil it every few months.

I did have problems with the K&N oil filter though

About a week after putting the filter on I noticed a knock upon startup. Turns out there are issues with the back flow preventers in K&N oil filters.

I run K&N air systems on every vehicle I own. This is always my first modification. I believe they are well worth the money. Just my 2 cents.

I you are talking about the K&N CAIs (or any CAI), I'm 100% with you. If you are talking about the K&N replacement filter, I'm not so sure. An oil-based medium will do a better job at repelling water than a paper filter. The way the stock box is designed, the air is drawn up through the filter. Short of submerging the entire air box in water, I would think there is some advantage to having the K&N filter to keep the occasional splash from reaching the engine.

The only thing I can say increasing air flow is the hype says it's true so it must be, right?

I put the K&N drop in filter in my 08 unlimited, and I noticed the 3.8L had a little more pep to it. I honestly got better mpg too. Before I was getting about 18 mpg. Now I'm showing 19.1 mpg. It's the third K&N filter I've put in my vehicles, and have always been happy with them.

Go for this one.

It's about the same price as a K&N drop in and you don't have to oil it.
It looks pretty unique, and you could be the tester. If you do be sure to give us some feedback.

I have run K&N air filters in all my rigs (JK, 2000 XJ, 1980 Cherokee) including all my Goldwings. Before I bought the JK I leased a 2006 Dakota with the 3.7 and the six speed manual Tranny to test and be sure it would be what I wanted in my JK. K&N was in it within 100 KM on the truck.

I got from full to empty 700 Km's range on that truck.

The list on my JK said 26 miles to a gallon. In metric that is about 10.8 liters to 100 km's. At 32,000 Kms I am getting 9.8 to 10.2 under the conditions for test fuel consumption.

Range on my JK per tank is about 600 to 650 km's depending on weather conditions.

With the filter and syn oil you can not go wrong.
