Seems a great deal of talk about the key replacement and the cost of re-programming fobs. From what I have read only the grey fobs have to be programmed to start the vehicle. I have an 08 JK with a black key and four buttons. Can I just purchase a key that will unlock the door and crank the vehicle. I understand to remote start and lock/unlock the doors it would have to be programmed. Just not wanting to pay the dealer $75

 

Do you have 2 keys currently working? If so, you can order a spare grey key (I bought mine online for $8.99) and then cut it and program it yourself. If you have just one working key then you can still order the key but from what I know you have to take it to the dealer to get programmed.

 

Wish I had the other key. Just one key with black fob and four buttons.
