Default 07 3.8 engine tap

I have a 07 jku with 70k miles and has started having an engine tap from the passenger side. Originally I thought it was a exhaust manifold leak but doesn't go away as it gets warm. Anybody else had this issue?

My start-up tick went away with 10w-30 Rotella T (115,000 mean miles). What are you using for oil?

5w30 Mobil 1 I believe. I check the manifold but didn't see the usual signs(black exhaust residue, cracks) Mine ticks ALL the time although it does get a little quiter when the fan kicks in but I think that's because of the added noise.

10w30 penzoil cured my ticks. Synthetic 5-30 is to thin imo for this pos motor. Actually have moved to 10w40 since I went over 100,000m. About 1/2qt oil consumption every 5000m. And that was with the 10w30, not seeing any now.

Maybe I will try the oil weight change. See how that goes.

Well changed the oil and filter and actually got better and then a few miles into it got worst than previously was. I'm baffled. Sounds like it may be coming from the oil pump? possibly. When I changed it I switched to 10w30 also thinking a lil thicker would quiet it down. Donno.

I would do that first and see if it helps. If not it still could be a manifold leak. Just because an engine is hot doesn't always mean it will go away. It is a fairly common issue with the JK
